About

A potted history.......

In November 2006, eighteen months of planning and hard work came to fruition when business partners Myles Gilbert and David Hall opened The Albany in Guildford. Located on Sydenham Road behind the old cinema, The Albany offers a home from home environment with its fresh food and extensive range of wines, beers and spirits. With four en-suite rooms available on a bed and breakfast basis, there is something for everybody at The Albany www.thealbany.net

With The Albany 'motoring forward' Chris Connor and David Gough joined the business and put the wheels in motion to acquire another site; one that was, as it turned out, to be a much loved country pub linked back to Myles family. Over thirty years ago, Wing Commander Doug Keary retired from the RAF and purchased the lease to a little know village pub in Brook called The Dog and Pheasant. Doug's young family grew up running around the grounds of the pub and on the green in front of the Pirrie Hall and these are the much fond memories of Doug's step-son Myles GIlbert.

Over the years the site changed hands numerous times until it unfortunately closed in August 2008. Myles and 'the boys' have transformed this much loved pub and taken it back to the heart of village life. The dining room has been re-opened and refurbished in keeping with the rest of the pub and with extensive gardens and a fully enclosed children's play area for the summer (and four roaring open fires in the colder months) The Dog and Pheasant is the perfect venue for birthday parties, anniversary meals or business meeting during the day!

Recently we have added another country pub to our portfolio - The Squirrel at Hurtmore. Offering eight rooms on a bed and breakfast basis and located right on the A3, we offer a wide range of traditional pub food with fresh fish specials and a great wine list as well - pop over and see Steve and the team soon! www.thesquirrel-hurtmore.co.uk
